The solenoid nucleus is a metal plunger with a rubber tip. This tip is a wear surface and over time it becomes indented from pressure.
When the nucleus fails – you’ll see the burner will ooze oil out the nozzle when the unit is TURNED OFF.
We generally recommend replacing the nucleus during annual maintenance because it is a relatively inexpensive item and it can cause the burner to leak out the nozzle.
